Oulli Rugs was borne out of a passion for Moroccan textiles and a burgeoning collection that quickly outgrew our small London apartment. We specialise in vintage and rare carpets mostly sourced directly from Berber villages and towns in the Middle and High Atlas.
Our circuitous search has led us from remote villages to open souks, always on the lookout for the most unusual and dynamic of carpets. We only select one-off pieces that are not made commercially, but by weavers for their own use, which manifest in an idiosyncratic and oftentimes experimental and uninhibited material language. Their unique environment in the Moroccan highlands is preserved in techniques, motifs, and patterns which are interpreted by each generation of weavers alongside prevailing trends and influences. As vintage pieces, their use and wear over the years adds yet another layer to their aesthetic evolution, gaining patina and traces of the old and the new.
A commitment to buying carpets close to their provenance also ensures that resources go back to the weavers and their communities. We believe in an equitable and sustainable practice that encourages open dialogue and exchange, with the utmost respect and appreciation for each distinctive weave and its maker.
We work closely with interior designers, private collectors, and homes to source for that special carpet or textile. Our inventory of carpets is not listed in its entirety on the website, so do contact us for more!
